On September 15th, the day that National Chang Kung Univsersity Freshmen Orientation Camp was held, four people of our older students had given us many valuable experiences of their own lifes.

At the beginning, Jimmy, whom I respected the most, has been travaling around the world throught his college life. What impressed me more was that he always gets the 1st grade in his competitive class. He had been to Japan, the U.S., Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, and so forth. Relying on his excellent grades and his determination, he made himself full of global views.

Through his talks, Jimmy threw us some important idea to encourage those who want to travel or study abroad :

  1. Recording
  2. Prepare for Anytime : autobiography, Language, Target
  3. Good Relation with Prof
  4. Good Grades : Studying Group→Sharing and Discussion
  5. Friends
  6. Just Do It

After his marvelous speeching, another girl gave us some useful perspective of facing our unknown furure. Since her Chinese name is 丁云旋 and its pronunciation relates the the Chinese term of cos, she got this special moniker.

Her words were filled with persuasion that she dreamed to live in a colorful college life with success, friendship, not just getting a diploma from in NCKU. Holding this belief, she had joined many clubs and built enormous partnerships with many companies, which successfully made a great reputation for NCKU's students club. Belowing are her beliefs :

  1. Dream is a pure creation
  2. Rest is to prepare a longer journey ahead
  3. Empower, enlarge and enrich your influence
  4. Anything is Possible
  5. Make Each Day Count
Through those special experiences and wisdom, leading a colorful and spectacular college life may become easier and more colorful than ever!

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park

Cliff-hanging vistas and wildness flow into your heart, and that's Glacier National Park, located at the margin between USA's Montana State and the Alberta State in Canada.

To explore this enormous and fantastic park, the fastest way is get a car to drive through the Going-to- the-Sun road, which line across the heart of Rocky Mountains. The colossal construction of hewing those mountains was completed in 1932. After its one-decade working period, millions of people have traveled this 50-mile marvel.

Though I've seen Taiwan's Taroko gorge, I still can't picture how did the nature mother carve such a mind-blowing and fascinating scenery. With sweeping valleys, rugged peaks, plunging waterfalls along the road, I'm sure that everyone will pull over and get out the car, catching a glimpse of its beauty.

What makes this park worth visiting are the rampant wild animals, such as grizzle and bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Besides renowned for its precious spices, the park allow you to see the four seasons views within two or three long trip.

The bus service can also be a part of sighting. Started in 1937, the fleet offer a 25-foot-long, 17-seater bus to drive travelers along a varity of routes.

Those bus drivers are locally called "jammers," since long ago they jammed the bus' gears as they shifted going up and down the mountainous road.

When the sun set comes, many people begin milling about the Lake McDonald's chores with cameras in hand, hoping to catch a nice picture for their itinerary.

Hope one day I may drive my own car and step into this marvelous park, with my eyes and body.

The Best Way I Recommend to Learn English

The Best Way I Recommend to Learn English
Time flies like a intangible bird whose value is charming but unable to be saved.
In September1st, 2013, many senior highs are turning into freshmen, stepping into their new learning environment, and so do I. Before we go to the different environment, something cannot be mentioned - our deficiency in speaking and writing English.
As an educated student under Taiwan-culture approach, including forcing me to memorizing enormous vocabularies, what I've seen is that talking to a foreigner in English troubles us. From junior to senior, this period gives almost 6 years to students to learn it. Nevertheless, due to such a high-pressure exam circumstance, we only have reached a high level of reading and listening without the two others. Even worse, in many situations, like listening to CNN News or reading a article from New York Times, understanding what they are listening and reading makes them frustrated. Another main problem is that we don't teach students how to learn English. In another words, teachers regard it as a subject, not a communication tool. Thus, high stress of learning it comes, and deprive the fun of learning of students.
Let's recap to the topic : How to Learn English Well? Here I get two points for you.

First, a good way of learning a thing should follow this route of four points:

  1. Set the Precise Goal :
  2. What kind of level do you want to reach? If you want to study aboard by having a high TOFEL score, you may need to pay more efforts. Or if you want to get promotion by joining TOEIC test, listening and reading skills are priorities.
  3. Make a well-planned Learning Route :
  4. How much time are you planning to spare? In daily life, how much time can you spend everyday? Generally speaking, 15 minutes per day will be quite enough.
  5. Choose Proper Learning Tool :
  6. In my opinion, this can be separated into two stages, grammars and magazines :
    • 英語句型與翻譯 written by 三民書局. It tells you many useful grammars.
    • You can choose your textbooks by exams or choose a series of learning magazines, like ABC to LiveABC to All Plus from LiveABC Inc. or 大家說英語 to 空中英語教室 to 彭蒙惠英語 from StudioClassroom.
  7. Give yourself some pleasures and power by learning it :
  8. Think of something delightful when you are tried of learning English, like I can talk to Americans in English, sounds cool, right? Try to give yourself a reason to drive your learning engine. Laziness can blows your efforts away in a second.

Second, you may build some habits when learning it :

  1. Try to memorize the way of expression the author used as possible. For example, in Chinese 我吃飽了, cannot not be stated like "I had enough." It'd be stated like "I have had a lot." In this part, you need to "understand" it and then memorize it.
  2. Always speak the paragraph, either dialogues or articles will be fine. Use multi-senses to help you learn quicker.
  3. Listen podcast and read good article. Good podcasts may be ESL-English as Second Language, BBC World Service, APM-American Public Media and so forth. Excellent articles come from The Economists, International Herald Tribune and so on.
By making a plan and keeping those habits when learning English, you may see more progress appear.
Have fun!
